SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6

Chafin and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Designating January 29, 2002, "Disability Awareness Day".

Whereas, There are approximately 250,000 West Virginians with
disabilities; and

Whereas, West Virginia has the largest population of persons
with disabilities per capita than any other state in the nation;
and

Whereas, People with disabilities are active and participating
members of society who have proven themselves through education and
rehabilitation to be dynamic employees in the workforce; and

Whereas, West Virginia's citizens with disabilities have
formed an association, called the Fair Shake Network, to bring
attention to their concerns regarding equal opportunities, equal
access, equal rights and state funding of their programs; and

Whereas, The purpose of Disability Awareness Day is to
increase the awareness of legislators, administrators, policymakers
and the public of the issues that are important to people with
disabilities; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates January 29, 2002,
"Disability Awareness Day"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the Fair Shake Network.
